Opalescence—Whitening

If your teeth have lost their pearly white healthy appearance you are not alone. Aging, diet, injuries along with many other factors cause teeth to dull and yellow. With the rise of personal appearance television programs, Teeth Whitening has become a popular dental procedure.

Whitening is a mild bleaching process that restores stained or discolored teeth to a healthy, natural color, and is very safe under the supervision of a dental professional.

The results from Whitening can last for as long as a year and with touch-ups treatments (at home) every few months results can last even longer. "Touch-ups" are especially useful for patients that drink beverages that are prone to stain teeth, such as coffee, tea and red wine.

Some patients may experience heightened tooth sensitivity or mild tooth or gum sensitivity during treatment, but these symptoms are only temporary and disappear within a few days after the treatment is finished.

Reason for Tooth Discoloration include:

  • Drinking coffee, tea, wine or soft drinks stains teeth
  • Natural aging—The dentin underneath the enamel of a tooth darkens
  • Smoking or any tobacco use stains teeth
  • Accidents—a dead nerve will darken a tooth
  • Root Canal Therapy

Feel free to ask us about professional tooth whitening as well as over the counter agents. Together you can compare treatments and determine which solution will be most effective for you.

If you are interested in bringing out the white in your teeth, the team at Museum Dental will evaluate your teeth, smile and expectations with you, to determine whether whitening is the correct procedure for you.
