Snoring – More than Noise!

Hi Everyone,

Dr.B gives us some information regarding Sleep Apnea, and how you can determine whether yours is moderate or if you need schedule a doctor's appointment.

My wife, who wakes up at the slightest noise, has been forever urging me to find a way to stop my snoring. This isn't a new phenomenon. I have been snoring all my life! She must like me because we've been happily married for over 37 years!

There are dozens of products that claim to stop snoring. However, before you or your partner start trying these products, I urge you to take a very important first step to determine if the snoring is a sign of a potentially serious, even fatal medical disorder: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

I suggest visiting www.stopbang.ca/osa.php , a website developed by Dr. Frances Chung and her colleagues at Toronto Western Hospital. This site is loaded with valuable information about sleep apnea. Complete the “STOPBang” questionnaire to find out how much you are at risk for OSA. Please take the results seriously. If you are at significant risk then arrange to see your family doctor.

Why am I so serious about this? Because I recently found out that I have moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea!
